For the holiday weekend I visited Los Angles with the intention of filling my days with art experiences. There is no shortage of creativity in the sprawling cultural hub that is LA so I had much to choose from. But something organically emerged from my travel itinerary — a beautiful and serendipitous theme of COLOR. Come along with me to see the full spectrum of hues from my week away:

Bathing in fields of color
Experience: Chromasonic
An immersive, sensorial experience of color and sound frequencies, Chromasonic created a fully enveloped world of color. The physchology of color is how hues affect our perceptions and behaviors. It was interesting to feel into somatic shifts in my body when reds were paired with deep, staccato vibrations creating a sense of tension, bracing, tightening, whereas expansive blue and yellow paired with uplifting tones created a sense of expansion or excitement.

LACMA
Experience: Ed Ruscha at LACMA
You can never go wrong with Los Angeles County Museum of Art. This trip I explored the Ed Ruscha exhibit. Ruscha is an LA-based multi-disciplinary artist with a background in graphic design, commercial art, and print. Some of his most famous artworks are typographic treatments or pop paintings of gas stations. The work I love the most is the mixed media, his use of various materials like coffee, inks, (even blood!!) to create statement pieces. His famous Chocolate Room from 1970 was recreated here — a room of papers screen-printed with actual chocolate paste - a sight (and smell) to be experienced.

Accidentally Wes Andersen
Experience: Accidentally Wes Andersen The Exhibition
This super playful traveling exhibition is currently at Santa Monica Art Museum. It is a tribute to the delightful visual style of Wes Andersen with a participatory art show of community photography that evokes the Wes Andersen spirit. Each section of the exhibit took a different color and expression: Doors (yellow), Hotels (red), Nature (green), Transportation (teal), and Maritime (blue). Do you have a favorite Wes Andersen film? Share it in the comments!

Seven Senses - Green dinner
Experience: TASTING COLOR: A Seven Senses Feast
By way of a great Substack newsletter (see below), I discovered an invitation to Kensho Studio’s inaugural dinner, TASTING COLOR: A Seven Senses Feast. They began with GREEN, which just so happens to be my favorite color. Artist and designer Sabrina wanted to explore tasting the rainbow through our senses: SEE (all green tablescape), HEAR (a green playlist), SMELL (the gift of a green perfume), TASTE (vegetarian and all green food by a chef), TOUCH (green Salt Ceramics), BALANCE (natural pigment art and poetry), and ENVISION (still-life print invitations). I loved the surprise details and connections of this small and intimate dinner experience.
